About

Alex Vaatstra Wellington Violin Teacher
MusB, Lmus, DipGradTCHG

I completed a Bachelor of Music majoring in violin performance at Otago University in 2006. In 2008 I began teaching the violin and viola to students in the Dunedin region until I moved to Wellington in 2015.

In 2016 I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in education to further support my private teaching practice.

I have been teaching the violin and viola in Wellington since the beginning of 2017.

Currently I am employed as violin teacher at Amesbury School, St Mary’s College, St Oran’s College and Wellington Music Centre.

I also teach privately from 3.30pm – 8pm either at student’s houses or at my studio in Newlands.

I tailor my teaching to suit each student.

Younger students can expect to have lessons that focus on ear training, technical development and having fun learning the violin.

Older more advanced students will work on interpretation and advanced technique. I enjoy troubleshooting technical issues and helping advanced students find ease and proper alignment while playing the violin.
